Character Name: Michael and a rotating assortment of alias surnames. His real name is Michael Bishop but rarely uses that surname anymore.
Series: Nikita
Age: Apx. 35
From When?: Season 1 episode 9. Following his failed assassination attempt in the Uzbekistan airport and capture. He was in pretty bad shape and ready to die when captured. While in custody he wasn't treated very well and likely interrogated so he was likely close to letting himself die before he got bailed out by Division.
Inmate/Warden: Inmate. Michael has let himself be twisted into a monster. He knows it and thinks it's justified. He's done some terrible things simply because he was ordered to and never bothered to ask questions. He willingly gave up everything to become a monster for the one goal of revenge. At his current canon point, he is completely willing to kill people he once cared about if they do anything to disrupt his goal of revenge.
[Choose one and say why they're this way. Wardens--Why does the Admiral think your character would be useful as a warden here? What do they bring to the table? Regardless of their good/evil/neutral motiviations, do they have the capacity to help an inmate achieve graduation? Inmates--What does your character still need to change about themselves? How can working with a warden on the Barge help them?]

Abilities/Powers: In canon Michael demonstrates that he's fluent in Russian, French and Arabic, it's likely he was taught several other languages during his time at Division. He's skilled in hand to hand combat, specifically, Krav Maga, Kali, and MCMAP. He's a skilled marksman and boasted the distance shoot record at Division until Nikita broke his record. He's proficient in a majority firearms, but often specializes in sniper rifles, M4 rifles and the Beretta M9 pistol. He's been further trained in infiltration, espionage, torture resistance and assassinations.
Personality:
Ten years ago, Michael was a young, ambitious, principled, good person who worked as an Navy Intelligence Officer. He had a family and a bright future. Unbeknownst to him, someone wanted him out of the way but it didn't go quite as planned. The bomb meant for him killed his wife and daughter. It destroyed him. He nearly killed himself but was stopped by someone who offered him a chance at revenge. All he needed to do was leave everything behind and work for a secret black ops organization, Division. A provable deal with the devil.
Michael buried everything about himself and let himself be remade into a weapon. Of course, the person he was before wasn't destroyed, it was merely suppressed and denied. What he became still had shadows of his former self, he was still principled but now those principles could be easily bent to suit his ultimate goal of revenge. So set on revenge, Michael was easily manipulated with very little complaint, often purposely deluding himself that some of the kills he made were for a greater good. Or that torture was justified means to an end. What this means is he was blind to the fact Division had become corrupt, choosing not to ask questions unless it involved killing civilians. He wasn't completely unaware but he believed it still operated as an necessary evil.
So, this new person Michael became is very mission-minded, serious, precise and deadly. He believed the cost for his revenge was to learn to become a killer, an assassin, a solider that followed orders perfectly and completed his mission. Each mission, bringing him closer to his goal. He shut himself down emotionally, to keep himself from feeling anything of his old self before he had a chance to kill the person who killed his family.
After becoming one of the best agents of Division and the right-hand-man of Percy, the director of Division, Michael began to let his guard down. He was in charge of training new recruits, whom he soon became attached to. These were kids who had no other options left in life and he couldn't help but identify. Even so, he often stood by and did nothing when Percy ordered any of them killed. It was all a means to an end and he'd push his emotions back down.
Then he met Nikita, a recruit who was able to get past the cracks in his armor. Someone who could get him to feel again and question both Division and his own goals. Later, when Nikita became an agent, she eventually went rogue from the organization. Michael was tasked with finding and killing her. He went through the motions but couldn't kill her. For the first time in a long time he didn't follow through on an order.
But Michael still stayed with Division and very little changed for him. Him failing one kill was deemed a minor infraction in an otherwise spotless record. When Nikita reappeared six years later, Michael was once again tasked with finding and killing her. Again, he couldn't bring himself to do it. They remained on opposing sides, with him falling just short of catching her. Sometimes intentionally, sometimes unconsciously. During short interactions she made him once again question everything and he became very close to siding with her.
Michael was given leave from Division, to go after the man who killed his family. He went in alone and Nikita showed up claiming she wanted to help him. It went fairly well at first, but when the mission was botched due to external influence everything went to hell. Michael was left with a very small window where he could kill him, but it would likely be suicide. To save his life, Nikita turned him into the local authorities. Having no issues with dying, himself, this angered Michael. He felt betrayed. He shut himself off from every believing or listening to her again and even planned to really kill her next chance he got.
It sent him full dark-side so to speak. He became more convinced than ever he needed to kill anyone who stood in his way, no matter who they were. Those cracks in his armor became sealed off. He was now 100% devoted and accepting to doing whatever it takes, no matter how horrible, to meet his goals.
Barge Reactions: Initially, Micheal will assume it's not real and is a hallucination of some sort. It will take him some time to come to terms with it being real, but he might never truly believe it's real. When it comes to other people, as long as they pose no direct threat or in the way of his goals, he'll be fine with them.
Path to Redemption: It will be rough to get Michael to accept he needs redemption at all. He views himself as irredeemable for a cause and has accepted it that way. Once he realizes there is room for redemption, even for him, one major step is he needs to forgive Nikita for saving his life at the expense of his revenge.
He'll need to confront the fact that Division has become corrupt and causes more harm than good. But what needs to happen most of all is he needs someone to break past his barriers and get to the person he used to be. To draw that part of him out. There's a very good person hiding in there that wants nothing more than protect people and make the world a better place. That part of him as been systematically pushed down and repressed but its still there.
He just needs to learn how to feel it again and understand that he's not betraying his family by letting himself be happy.
Lastly, his drive for revenge needs to be addressed. He needs to see that he's caused more damage with it than good. He must also be convinced his life means something beyond avenging his family. That there are more productive ways to honor them.
